Free in cost, free in method. A jazz drumming exerise for getting some variety into your playing, free of meter concerns. The parts here are written two or three beats long, but play them over any meter— 4/4, 3/4, 5/4, it doesn’t matter. Listen to the recording and stay oriented— don’t turn the beat around or lose the 1— but don’t count.

Like it says, repeat each thing as many times as you want, go on to the next thing, repeat the entire mess. Do it along with one of my sampled loops, or other music. Add hihat and bass drum however you like. It would be nice to be able to keep the hihat on 2 and 4 (assuming you’re doing it in 4/4) while doing this.
