A big part of my job teaching is getting people to handle their materials as loosely as I do. You’re supposed to be trying things, developing them beyond just the ink. On this page are some of the types of things I do with a Mozambique groove, usually without writing them down. Similar to what I wrote for a songo groove not long ago.
Play with/without the ending tie. Here the left hand parts are all written on the snare drum line, you should be moving them around the drums— see my overview page of Mozambique for some typical ways of doing that. There are some bracketed portions where you can be looking to move your hands around the drums as fills. Between this and my other Mozambique materials you should have a pretty full picture of how to handle this very versatile groove.
