I finally discovered a use for one part of Funky Primer— the hands-only section on pp. 17-21. I never found much practical use for them as playing vocabulary, except they work really well for making a basic samba feel. Pick your favorite options for the bass drum, left foot, and cymbal, and work it out:
Play the snare part as rim clicks, or on the drum normally, with varying articulations— buzz strokes, rim shots, etc— or move it around the drums.
