Was working with a student on a couple of recent things: this sort of approach, using these pages as a rhythm library, playing along with the loop sampled from Tunji, by John Coltrane. These are a few elements that were in play:

We’re jabbing a little bit. Some of these are based off the vamp, or the horn part, or the rhythms from the tresillo combinations page. Since the original track is in a distinctly triplet based feel, we need to finesse the 16ths a bit so at least the accents kind of line up with the recording— the cymbal accents on the &s, specifically, you can stretch a little bit to make them fall on the swing &. We can be playing the triplet/16th fill materials at the beginning of the vamp, or the end, or maybe just in the middle. Just pay attention to how the accents fit with, or vs., the major rhythm parts in the recording.
I am happy to help you with any of the materials on the site, and with anything else drumming related— contact me for private lessons, online world wide, or in person in Portland, Oregon. All levels of players, and all people, are welcome.
