Here is a collection of rhythms written by Cymbal & Gong’s own Tim Ennis, for another drummer. Tim has a home in New Orleans, as well as in Portland, and frequently visits and performs there, and these are some rhythms that come up in the course of that.

They’re written for a NO marching rig— a bass drum with a cymbal mounted on top, but can be easily adapted to the drums. You can add hihat on the 2 and 4, and double some or all of the slash rhythm on the bass drum. Or do some kind of mixed thing where it lines up partly with the slashes, partly with the cymbal/bell.

The “cascara” rhythm here is not specifically a NO thing of course, but is regularly used.

I am happy to help you with any of the materials on the site, and with anything else drumming related— contact me for private lessons, online world wide, or in person in Portland, Oregon. All levels of players, and all people, are welcome.
