A page of warmups for one of my students, connecting the right hand lead triplet system (which he knows well) into a triplet comping system (which he does not).
They’re both major ways of working with the book Syncopation, to quickly summarize:
RH lead = play book rhythm with RH/BD in unison, fill in triplets with LH on SD
Triplet comping = play book rhythm on BD, fill in triplets w/LH on SD, add jazz cymbal rhyhm

The four way stickings are real useful for understanding what we’re actually doing, I encourage thinking in a single combined rhythm, with a four way sticking whenever learning something new, with complex coordination. I’ve said before, independence is not a thing, don’t think that way.
R = RH/BD in unison – cym/BD
L = LH on SD
H = both hands in unison – cym/SD
B = bass drum
I am happy to help you with any of the materials on the site, and with anything else drumming related— contact me for private lessons, online world wide, or in person in Portland, Oregon. All levels of players, and all people, are welcome.

Ignoring the first three first bars , what is the reasonable goal regarding the tempo?
Hi Eric– For this page I think people should be in the 80-120 bpm range. It’s really preparation for doing the same thing reading from Syncopation, as an interpretation.
This type of thing can be done much faster, in some form, up into the high 100s at least. There will be artifacts of this kind of motion at faster tempos, well into the 200s.
