Reed interpretation: RH lead 16ths – swing

A little item I’ve been working with, adapting our familar right hand lead Reed system for 16th notes, giving the rhythms in the book a dotted-8th/16th swing interpretation— as we do with this paradiddle inversion system.

The stickings are a little irregular, so it’s not the easiest thing to master; the purpose of it may just be to introduce some other types of movement, when doing this in the more familiar triplet form. All of these things based on the basic Reed systems are worth spending some time with.

I work up all of these systems reading from Syncopation, pp. 6-7, 10-11, 30-32, 34-45. It’s worth including pp. 10-11 adding ties to the last 8th before a quarter.

At the bottom of the page is the way I accent the alternating singles— any time the book notes are in a quarter note spacing, which is a lot of it. So we get to play some alternating singles in a way that isn’t pure Wipeout, or Buddy Rich.
