CYMBALISTIC: Seattle follow-up

CYMBALISTIC: Had a great small— very small— meeting in Seattle with my brother John Bishop, a great drummer and president of Seattle’s Origin record label, and Evan Woodle, one of his employees , and also a good drummer. We played all of the ~15 Cymbal & Gong cymbals I brought, and they each came away with a really nice 20″ cymbal.

I’ll be going back to Seattle soon to show some cymbals to show D’Vonne Lewis some cymbals, so if you’re in town and want to play some, let me know, and we can arrange it.

And I have a bunch of new cymbals for which I’m making videos today— those should be posted here and on Cymbalistic by Friday.

It’s great when good players play the cymbals and get excited about them— they know what they’re playing, and know that finding good cymbals can be a very long pursuit. Usually it’s never-ending compromise, a parade of varyingly acceptable cymbals.

Interestingly, the best modern Zildjian I’ve played in years was there— it was a prototype with a bend in the edge, that Steve Gadd dropped off at a Seattle drum shop, and Evan picked it up cheap. It’s a notable occasion when somebody brings a cymbal that sounds and plays almost as good as the Cymbal & Gongs, but, being a prototype, it’s one of a kind, so there’s no way for somebody else to get one. It’s annoying. Just make a good cymbal and let people buy it.

OK, videos coming, let me know if you’re in Seattle and want to play some cymbals in the next couple of weeks…
