Roy Haynes trading fours with Sonny Rollins, on Sonny’s record The Sound of Sonny, on a really dumb little tune, Toot Toot Tootsie, of Al Jolson fame. I only ever had to play it with a bad 20s nostalgia stage act, hopefully you will never have to.
The tempo is about quarter note = 230, the first solo break happens at 2:53.

There are a number of easily-copped licks or motifs there. On most of the breaks here he gets away from the time feel with a quarter note on the cymbal on beat 4, and begins his solo with an 8th rest. At the end there’s a stop time for the horn to play, with hits on 1; Roy lands a little early at the end of his solo.
I am happy to help you with any of the materials on the site, and with anything else drumming related— contact me for private lessons, online world wide, or in person in Portland, Oregon. All levels of players, and all people, are welcome.
